THE THREE BIGGEST LIES OF THE FOOD INDUSTRY

By 14:24

There are plenty of reasons why I rarely go shopping at the supermarket. There is first an ethical will for me to buy directly from the producers, but also a real interest in what I put on my plate.
Here are 3 foods to outlaw your caddies during your next trip to Franprix.

CELLULOSE

wood-chips
Do you have already eaten a piece of wood? No ? In fact, maybe so, and without knowing it ...
Natural cellulose consists of a long chain molecules of D-Glucose is the main component of plants and in particular of the walls of their cells. Cotton is an important source (90%) and the timber (40 ~ 50%)
The origin of the E460 cellulose can be transgenic cotton. In Europe many of transgenic cotton fields are approved for food use.

Breads already prepared? Pasta pizza? Bagels? Most contain this additive ... It can replace the flour & oil to give consistency to the product.
The worst in all this? It is an indigestible carbohydrate to man, which can have a negative influence on your health.
The good news ? In Europe this additive is banned in organic products!
The bad ? The European Union authorized in food supplements, so we must remain vigilant.

ORANGE JUICE

Do you have ever wondered why the industrial orange juice tasted the same throughout the year, regardless of brand, and in all countries of the world?
In fact it's very simple: it is not really orange juice.
But it starts with fresh orange ... And then everything goes wrong: the juice is sealed in tanks where all the oxygen is removed to prevent the juice moldy. This method keeps the juice as it is for one year. This is how you can have orange juice in any season. Why do not trust the claim "freshly squeezed".
Then, remove any taste of this juice in a taste of the sake of harmonization. So we add the juice (soon vintage) a whole lot of flavor enhancers.

Fun fact: it is often the perfume industry that manufactures the 'orange flavor'.
The good news ? Oranges and a juicer back cheaper!

THE HIGH OUTDOOR POULTRY
article_poulets
The hens, chickens or turkeys raised in the open air are actually kept in large premises on the ground, with a density of 9 to 12 birds per m2!
The outdoor access is only three hours a day, where most of the time, the chickens have no other opportunity to stretch your legs than to follow in single file through a narrow fenced corridor.
Beak trimming (cutting beak) is common in these types of farms too! The living conditions are intolerable poultry, so do not rely on the picture of a happy hen in the middle of a field on the box ...
The good news ? Labels such as Nature & Progrès or Demeter will guarantee good quality eggs, from chickens raised in humane conditions.
And you ? What you do not buy at the supermarket?
